Taz

* "He is best known for his speech consisting mostly of grunts, growls and rasps, and his ability to spin and bite through just about anything."

Isn't she too cute, my little girl?
But don't be fooled. These days, this little angel of a girl makes a mess everywhere she goes, systematically spills her milk and throws her food on the floor when she's done eating, gets out of her highchair when we're not looking and crawls on the table, and yells at us when she doesn't get what she wants fast enough.
In fact, we're considering changing her nickname to Taz*.
* "He is best known for his speech consisting mostly of grunts, growls and rasps, and his ability to spin and bite through just about anything." The resemblance is striking, really.

Shooting. Again.

Another tragedy, 12 people were killed by the bullets of a guy armed as if he was going to Afghanistan, and fifty more people were injured, several critically.
In the French press, I read "In the U.S. a new massacre and the same debate". The debate, I have only seen it in a few editorials. The President and his opponent in the
November election offered their condolences, the campaign was put on hold for a few hours, maybe a few days in Colorado. None said a word of what could be done to prevent the next mass shooting. The Democrats believe, probably with reason, that they have nothing to gain by proposing to change the legislation on firearms, and for Republicans, of course, this is not even a possibility.
This time, the author of the shooting had no criminal record or documented psychiatric condition. But what he had, instead, was the right to acquire
assault weapons, and thousands of ammunition. But Americans can sleep soundly, AMC theaters just issued a costume ban. So this tragedy will not happen again. Not that one.

The fearless chef

Moi: "Des macarons, loulou."

Tipoulet: "Mamma, what are you going to make now?"
Moi: "Macarons, loulou."
Tipoulet: "Oh, can I help you make the macarons, Mamma?"
Moi: "No, loulou, macarons are complicated to make, you know."
Tipoulet: "They're not plon-ti-cated for me-e."

It's not a video, dummy, it's an animated picture.

Faithful reader of this blog, you'll probably have noticed that I love taking pictures, but videos, not so much. I always find the videos a bit tacky, and so I try to "improve" them (with varying degrees of success, I know) with music, or questionable animations. Even worse, sometimes I make videos that are not videos. Anyway.
But now, dear reader, I've found a new toy. Which puts some video in my photos. It's called Cinemagram, a "fun and beautiful way to animate your photos", quote-unquote. This may be the next $1B
Instagram, as I heard the new frontier of social networking is the video.

Well, in reality, the picture quality is quite mediocre, and it's easier to make crap than to make cute cines, but who knows, maybe it will get better?
Another problem is that my new toy only works on P's iPhone, and not on my old 3G. Logistically, it does make my life more complicated, you see?

Obviously Bastille Day isn't a holiday here, but this year we were lucky, it fell on a Saturday. So we went for a little hike through the Palo Alto Baylands around the bay.
And to honor the Motherland we also made an effort with the outfits.
In the evening we were invited for dinner by another family of French expats with children around the same age as ours. We were again in charge of the dessert. For the occasion, and as an educational project, I wanted to make something very French, and I settled on éclairs. The adults, like the children who were staring at the pastries with round eyes (they had no idea what they were) all seemed to like them. On the way back, Tipoulet even asked me when we could make the "things again, you know?"

Tata

So that's it, her first word, the real one, the one that always means the same thing: it's her brother's name (well, almost).
* she's been saying that one for a while now, but she doesn't say many more (of course, there's the unavoidable "huh oh", and "yay yay" when she's excited).
** at her age, Tipoulet was already using about 15 words... I've heard it's typical for second kids, because we don't talk to them, WE DON'T HAVE TIME.

Walking

Here we go, it's official, she's walking.
But I'm sorry, I couldn't find the "classy video" setting in iMovie. I used "kitsch".

Stripes and stars

Aujourd'hui, on était invité à une "4th of July Party". On était chargé d'amener le dessert.

Et il n'y pas que sur le dessert qu'on s'est lâché...

Si avec ça, je n'ai pas la carte verte... Happy 4th of July!

Today we were invited to a 4th of July party. We were asked to bring the dessert. We did go all out, and I'm not just talking about the dessert...
If this doesn't get me a green card... Happy 4th of July!
