1) parce que c'est un devoir;
2) parce que c'est un droit;
3) par solidarité avec mes parents, et parce qu'ils m'auraient probablement deshéritée si je n'avais pas fait mon possible pour qu'ils ne s'en reprennent pas pour 5 ans;
I don't know about you in France, but here we've been bombarded with emails from all the political parties for months (a side effect of being registered at the consulate). I haven't had time to read the majority of them, and those I've read have profoundly annoyed me: from the Front National (extreme right-wing) candidate in the parliamentary elections who tells us about our boring life - "I am an administrative secretary for my partner and I spend my free time advocating for animal rights and volunteering at a shelter for abandoned or abused cats "- and rants about the dangers of immigration in France - when she is herself an immigrant in the United States, to the UMP (right-wing party), which spreads lies about the Socialist Party program - on the so-called double income taxation of expatriates - and who think they can buy my vote.
As a result, they could be sure that I was going to make it to the voting booth ...
I voted today, then, for the following reasons, and in ascending order of importance:
1) because it is my duty;
2) because it is my right;
3) in solidarity with my parents, and because they likely would have disinherited me had I not done my best to spare them 5 more years of this;
4) because I hate that Sarkozy thinks I'm stupid.
