Dixiana the Steam Engine

Dimanche, on était invité à fêter les 3 ans de A, le fils d'un des meilleurs amis de P. Ils avaient organisé un petit pique-nique à Roaring Camp, avec en prime une ballade en train. Et pas n'importe quel train, un tiré par Dixiana, une locomotive à vapeur datant de 1912.



Tous les petits étaient enchantés, évidemment, mais c'était très sympa aussi pour les grands, qui ont apprécié la ballade et les jolis environs.





Pendant l'hiver, le train fait un aller-retour d'une heure environ sur une voie qui emmène dans la forêt de séquoias, avec une pause d'une quinzaine de minutes à la station intermédiaire.




Et c'est là, dans la forêt, qu'on a trouvé la seconde attraction du jour (ex-aequo, même, peut-être): le banana-slug (ou limace banane, ou Ariolimax).




Tout cela a bien plu à Tipoulet, bien sûr, donc on recommencera sans doute cet été, pour aller cette fois jusqu'à la promenade de Santa Cruz (3 heures de train aller-retour avec une pause de quelques heures pour déjeûner et profiter de l'océan). Ça m'a l'air très chouette, comme plan!




Last Sunday we were invited to celebrate A's 3rd birthday (A is the son of one of P's best friends). They had organized a small picnic at Roaring Camp, with a bonus train ride. And not just any train, but one pulled by Dixiana, a steam engine from 1912.
All the little ones were thrilled, obviously, but it was also very nice for adults, who enjoyed the ride and the beautiful surroundings.
During the winter, the train makes a round-trip of about an hour on a railroad that takes it into the redwood forest, with a fifteen-minutes stop at the intermediate station.
And it's there, in the forest, that we found the second highlight of the day (a tie first, actually, probably): a banana slug.
Tipoulet really liked his day, of course, so we probably will try doing it again this summer, this time to go to the Santa Cruz boardwalk (a 3 hours round-trip with a stop of a few hours to get lunch and enjoy the ocean). Sounds like a fun plan to me!
