Heartbroken

J'avais prévu de faire un post sur la lettre au Père Noël de Tipoulet ce soir, mais cette chose inimaginable est arrivée. 20 enfants, tous élèves d'une école primaire dans le Connecticut, morts. DES ENFANTS, nom de Dieu. Ça m'a donné mal au ventre toute la journée.

C'est la 17ème tuerie depuis que nous sommes arrivés aux États-Unis, en 2005. Après chacune d'entre elles, j'ai entendu les mêmes arguments fallacieux mis en avant par les supporters du Second Amendement. Et, de manière on ne peut plus obscène, on les entend à nouveau aujourd'hui. Mais cette fois-ci, on peut les faire taire*. On doit les faire taire. Parce qu'il y a comme un alignement macabre des astres**, et que si ça n'arrive pas maintenant, ça n'arrivera jamais. Dans l'idéal, je rêverais d'une interdiction totale, mais je vis ici depuis assez longtemps maintenant pour me contenter d'un vrai durcissement de la loi sur le port des armes à feu.

En attendant, pour les Américains et résidents des US, allez donc signer ça. Ou ça. Ou les deux.

I was planning on writing a post on Tipoulet's letter to Santa tonight, but something unimaginable happened. 20 children, all of them students of an elementary school in Connecticut, died. CHILDREN, for Christ's sake. It made me sick to my stomach all day.
This is the 17th mass shooting since we arrived in the US in 2005. After every single one of them, I've heard the same fallacious arguments put forward by supporters of the Second Amendment. And again, as obscene as it might sound, we hear the same ones today. But this time, we can shut them up*. We must shut them up. Because there is something like a disturbing alignment of dark planets** this time, and if it does not happen now, it will never happen. Ideally, I would dream of a total ban, but I have lived here long enough now that I'd be satisfied with a real tightening of gun control laws.

In the meantime, for you all Americans and residents of the US, go sign this. Or that. Or both.

** cette tuerie, de par son amplitude et l'âge des victimes, ne laissera personne insensible;  les arguments habituels de la NRA s'écroulent comme un chateau de carte (voir *); Obama vient d'être réélu pour son dernier mandat, il est donc moins à la merci des attaques de la NRA que jamais un Président ne le sera (il a d'ailleurs déjà laissé entendre qu'il n'allait pas rester immobile sur la question).
