Busy

Pas trop le temps de bloguer ces jours-ci... Il faut que je configure mon nouvel ordinateur portable (magnifique, rapide, mais pas encore très utile pour l'instant), et que je prépare un peu nos vacances au Mexique dans un mois et demi... Que des bonnes raisons, donc.

Not a lot of time to blog these days... I need to set up my new laptop (gorgeous, fast, but not really useful right now), and to prepare our upcoming vacation in Mexico in a month and a half... Only great excuses, really.

Post-holiday diet

Bah oui, c'est la saison de la Galette des Rois...



Le "hasard" a bien fait les choses, Tipoulet a trouvé la première fève...

Yes indeed, January is King's Cake, la Galette des Rois, season...
And Tipoulet was the "lucky" (hum hum) finder of the first trinket...

On the ferry to Sausalito

On n'avait encore jamais pris le bateau dans la baie de San Francisco avec Tipoulet, ça y est, c'est chose faite!

On a pris le ferry qui va de San Francisco à Sausalito, aller-retour.



Ça ne dure qu'une vingtaine de minutes, ce qui a semblé bien court à Mamina en comparaison de son aventure de la nuit précédente. Avec ce projet nautique en tête, elle a rêvé qu'elle venait nous voir depuis Paris en bateau, avec une seule hôtesse de l'air à la rame... Elle a quand même eu la présence d'esprit de nous appeler de sa barque pour nous prévenir qu'elle ne savait ni où, ni quand elle arriverait!




Depuis le bateau, on a une jolie vue de la ville, d'Alcatraz, et du Golden Gate Bridge (je dois bien en avoir 40 photos...)




On peut aussi admirer quelques habitants de la baie.




Cette fois-ci, on n'est malheureusement pas monté dans les collines de Sausalito, parce qu'avec une poussette (car un peu long pour Tipoulet) et porte-bébé, ça aurait été un peu trop sport. Du coup on s'est promené le long de la baie, vers le port de plaisance.



Le clou de la ballade, ça a été le coucher de soleil qui a rendu la baie toute rose. Magnifique!



Et ça fait un joli fond pour les portraits!





We had never gone on a boat in the bay of San Francisco with Tipoulet, but now, it's done!
We took the ferry that goes from San Francisco to Sausalito, round-trip.
It takes only twenty minutes, which seemed very short compared to Mamina's adventure from the previous night. With this marine project in mind, she dreamed that she came to see us from Paris by boat, with only one flight attendant rowing ... She still had the presence of mind to call us from her boat to let us know she had no idea where or when she would get there!
From the boat there's a lovely view of the city, Alcatraz and of the Golden Gate Bridge (I must have taken 40 pictures at least...).
You can also meet a few residents of the bay.
This time unfortunately we didn't climb up the hills of Sausalito, because with a stroller (it's still a bit long for Tipoulet) and a baby carrier, it would have been too much of a work out. So we walked along the bay to the marina instead.
The highlight of the trip was the sunset which turned the entire bay pink. Gorgeous!
And it made a great background for portraits!

Trouble is here

Bon, ça y est, la mistinguette est bien mobile... On n'est pas dans la mouise.





That's it, the tiny-lady is now mobile... All hell's broke loose.

Happy New Year !

Courant décembre les Américains envoient généralement des photos de leur famille en guise de carte pour souhaiter de joyeuses fêtes à leurs famille et amis.

En France, on envoie plutôt un petit mot pour présenter ses voeux de bonne année en janvier...

Cette année, j'ai décidé de faire un petit mélange des deux traditions, version digitale...

Très bonne année à tous !



In December Americans usually send pictures of their families as a card to wish happy holidays to their family and friends.
In France people send a little note with their wishes for a happy new year in January instead ...
This year I decided to do a little mix of both traditions, and went digital ...

December hikes

Ce mois de décembre aura été magnifique, à croire que personne n'a prévenu la météo de l'arrivée en Californie de Mamina...

Du coup, on se ballade...

Juste à côté, à l'Arastradero Preserve.







Et un peu plus loin, à Elkhorn Slough (c'est près de la mer, donc évidemment, il y a du brouillard).












December's weather has been magnificient, it's as if somebody forgot to let the weather forecast services know that Mamina had arrived in California... So we've been hiking a bit... Close by, at the Arastradero Preserve. Or further away, at Elkhorn Slough (it's close to the ocean, so of course, there's fog).

Joyeux Noël et joyeux Hanouccah à tous !

Pour notre part, on a réveillonné avec foie gras (qui sera interdit de production et de vente à partir de 2012 en Californie, mais je pense que ça devrait pouvoir continuer à arriver avec Mamina de Paris, ouf!), chapon, gratin de pommes de terre et de fenouil et tarte à l'orange, et pas mal de pinard.

Le réveil a été à la fois dur et sympathique...






Comme d'habitude, on remercie le Père Noël, et surtout ses petits lutins qui ont encore bien travaillé !...

Here we celebrated with foie gras (the production and sale of which will be banned in California in 2012, but Mamina should still be able to bring it with her from Paris, phew!), capon, potatoes and fennel gratin and orange tart, and a lot of wine.
Waking up this morning was both hard and lovely ...
As always we thank Santa very much, and in particular his little elves who worked very hard once again !...
