Calcified

So this awful shoulder surgery, and the 4 years of chronic pain that came before it, were all due to a calcified tendinitis. And not that small, ridiculous, beginner's calcification that they show on Wikipedia, mind you.
No, no, I had a f#$%ing huge calcification. That's what they said after the X-ray. Except without the f-word. Can you see it?
There. Huge, right? I wish I could take some credit for it... But no, it happens for no apparent reason. It looks like it's quite common among "young subjects" (I'm not the one saying that), but I had never heard of it.
Three months after the surgery, the chronic pain is gone, I can raise my arm, bike, carry my children. On the other hand, forget putting my hand in my jeans' back pocket... Apparently that can take three more months. So let's touch base in three months for the final results, as well as the bill, because we're still spending at the frightening rate of about $200 a PT session.

La Poulette The Fierce

That's the secret nickname that La Poulette's teachers came up with for her... One of them, who learned to play the guitar with a french guy who was a fan of Brassens, even found her a song**.
* apparently, in base-ball (on which I am totally ignorant), batters enter the field to the tune of "their" song.

** the lyrics go something like this: "a pretty flower in a cow's skin, a pretty cow dressed up as a flower".  Cow, in french, is used to describe someone who's tough.

Speed demons

Because of this shoulder surgery last December, I had pretty much given up on the idea of skiing this year... But with the season passing, and the temptation increasing, I ended up booking something* for this weekend. And honestly, I would have been very mad at myself if we had missed it. The conditions were ideal: it snowed Wednesday to Friday, and it was beautifully sunny on Saturday and Sunday.
Sliding-wise, Tipoulet made a lot of progress in parallel-skiing, but not too much with snowplow. So I ended up using the harness quite a bit, more for my own comfort than his. You might notice that he's quite a bit faster than last year.

And yes, La Poulette also did her first run on skis (mine), and she wasn't impressed at all.
Besides that, they had a few other good times, licking fresh snow or getting into snow-ball fights.
We're going back next month, hopefully a few storms will have come by then.
* a very nice something, in fact. We loved the hotel, and the raclette for the communal dinner.

Snow storm

Ouhlala, comme dirait ma fille...

Bon ben, bon week-end à vous aussi!

Oohlala, as my daugther would say...
Well, then, have a nice week-end  too!

Near Pescadero Beach

On Sunday, since the weather was so nice in Palo Alto, we decided to go to the ocean. We hadn't been there in like, forever. Since we're optimists, we had even brought swim suits (just for the kids, obviously, we're not that crazy), that was kind of foolish, because when we got there, it looked more like the Scottish coast and it was pretty deserted...
Except if you count fishermen, since Pescadero Beach is worthy of its name. One of them even caught a small leopard shark just in front of us!
And really, I am the only one bothered by bad weather, P and the kids never get cold. They always find things to do,  and they can keep themselves busy for hours, looking through tide pools, staring at the ocean, or finding seashells in the sand.
In the end, thankfully for me, we found a little spot that was sheltered from the wind, and the kiddos could stay and play near the water a little longer.
Alright, I'm done complaining, it was actually not that bad... And, bad weather here means snow in the mountain. And this is going to be pretty sweet, next week-end.

Another amazing facepaint

To be honest, I was as excited as Tipoulet to see that the face-paint lady was back at the farmers' market this morning. This time, we (yes, we; I was subtle, but persuasive) chose the cheetah.

It's almost Spring!

"Lilac and Tipoulet"
Note that girls are definitely more advanced, including at drawing

"Maman, tu sais, Rose, Lilas, Violette et Capucine, elles fall in love with me."

I don't know about where you live, but here the trees are blossoming and the butterflies are fluttering. And at the daycare, it's downright spring, and it's really funny to watch.
Well, initially Tipoulet was completely clueless. When 2 weeks ago, on Valentine's Day, his friend Rose* put a card in his cubby, he barely noticed it... And when Lilac cut out paper hearts for him, he wrote his name on them and immediately recycled them to give them to P, La Poulette and me...
But now, there are definitely a lot more glances going on. Because in addition to Rose and Lilac, there's also Violet and Poppy.
And last night, he seemed to have a better grasp on the whole situation.
"Maman, you know, Rose, Lilac, Violet and Poppy, elles fall in love with me."
 * I chose to change the names this time, so that we wouldn't get confused with initials.
