The other day, a postdoc brought to the lab some cookies she had baked over the week-end. And, as you may know, I can't resist a cookie. So I went to grab one, and surprise!
there was another cookie (an Oreo peanut butter) hidden inside the first cookie! It must have been 2,000 calories altogether at the very least, and to make things worse, it wasn't half bad, so I ate it all...

Point Reyes, Season 2
We finally found an excuse to go back to the Point Reyes house: the long weekend of Labor Day, last week. And this time, we took our friends G and K, as well as their little DragonBaby with us, which got our not-so-little ones so excited!
Outdoor-wise, we selected a few short hikes, preferably ending on a beach.
Like the McClures trail, that the kids and I had already been to.
And the Limantour coastal trail and beach, which was a little more sheltered from the fog.
And at the house, we enjoyed very much the pirate ship at the end of the backyard,
the tennis court - although next time, we'll know we are up against semi-pros, and we'll pack sneakers - and the barbecue... Everyone loved it as much as I did the first time, and even the sky approved of us coming back!

Cosmic forces
It feels like "somebody" thought our life was getting sort of boring and decided to do something about it...
2:46 pm, "yay" moment: I realize that the first step (the selective one) of my Green Card application has been approved!
2:49 pm, immediately canceled by a "huh oh" moment: I get a phone call from Tipoulet's after school care...

For sale
The day before Tipoulet started Kindergarten - on Wednesday, exactly two weeks ago - our landlord told us that they were selling their house and ours (on the same lot) and were moving to the wine country, north of San Francisco. Two hours later, there was a "for sale" sign in front of the house. The following weekend, we were asked to vacate the premises during the open house (a few hours during which real estate agents and potential buyers visit the houses for sale). The following Wednesday, it had sold.
Honestly, I can't blame our landlords, and in their shoes, I would have done the same a long time ago. At 70 years old, they couldn't afford to stop working, all the while sitting on nearly $2M ...
Initially, I was shocked not to have been informed earlier, but in hindsight, I think it would have done nothing more than ruining our vacation... It's not like we could have done anything anyway. In the end, we panicked for "only" a week. The house ended up being bought by a "Facebook lady" who invests in properties in the area. She will most likely keep tenants, which I had thought was the most unrealistic scenario... We haven't seen the new lease yet, but in any case, it seems that we will not be kicked out in the next two months, as we had expected. Thankfully, because otherwise, I'd be a lot lex relaxed about the 5 ads a day for moving companies that we've started getting in the mail...
And during that week of uncertainty before the sale, we explored several leads, so who knows, maybe it was a blessing in disguise ...?
