There's only one thing funnier than Tipoulet talking, it's Tipoulet talking in english. Cute, don't you think? When he started talking, all the words he knew were French, with a few rare exceptions (book or cookie, for example). But he really amazed us when we realized that in fact he knew tons of words in English too, but never used them with us. He used them very specifically with people who speak only English. So at the park we hear a lot of "shoes", "ball", "sorry", "baby", "balloon", "swing", "train" or "plane" substituting for the equivalent French words he normally uses with us. One of the only English words we hear regularly at home is "please", since that day when he wanted to watch one more cartoon, and we had said "no" 11 times after 11 very cute "s'il-te-plaît", and he went "pleaaaase", we were so astonished that we turned the TV back on ... Since then, when "s'il te plaît" does not work, he usually tries "please" just in case. Nothing to lose, right?

Rain no more
Allez, on y croit...

Could today be one of the last days of rain this year? Fingers crossed... PS I know, rain is good for everything else than my mood, but what can I say ?

Please welcome: our new kitchen stove !

Our landlords installed a new gas stove in the house ! Well, because here, when you rent, the landlords are most often responsible for all electrical appliances. It's a nice change from the bare walls of the majority of rental apartments in France ... In one house we visited when we first arrived in the U.S. we would have had to buy the washer-dryer ourselves: it ended up being a deal-breaker for us... Seriously... As I was saying, they installed a new gas stove. We did not ask for anything, though, since the previous one was (very) old but still worked ... They even apologized for having taken so long to replace it ! Here it is !
Not bad, huh? Its name is Frigidaire, which is quite amusing for the French amongst us ("frigidaire" has become a word on its own in the french language for a fridge - an other one is "réfrigérateur", or "frigo").
While the numbers on the thermostat knob were completely erased on the old oven (luckily I had an indelible mark for the cooking temperature of macarons, thank you Fred!), this one is all digital ... and it beeps when the preheating phase is finished.
And it also has self-cleaning ! Pure joy, I'm telling you. Well, the only thing it doesn't have is convection, but it will still do... So, thank you, thank you, our landlords !
And I keep finding excuses to use it ... But nobody in the family has complained so far.

1...2...3 !

luge,

et boules de neige...

avec un igloo en prime !
Un bien bon week-end en somme...
It was all like we said: ski (I alone, actually, with our friends, while P and Tipoulet stayed near the house), sled and snow balls... and an igloo on top of all this ! It was an excellent week-end !

We're leaving later today to go to Lake Tahoe for the week-end. Ski, sled, snow balls, the whole thing...
See you on Monday !
*for once, the english title refers to a french song... oh, well.

The boys' nanny took a day off yesterday, so we arranged a daycare co-op between our two families. D, Babou's mom, watched them in the morning and I took over in the afternoon. Because it was raining, we stayed inside, so I could notice first-hand that the best toys to keep two toddlers entertained AT THE SAME TIME are: the cardboard box playhouse, the vintage Fisher-Price activity center (bought on Ebay, and as old as P), and the legos. Pretty much nothing else works for more than 34 seconds...
